Percy Mayfield was an American rhythm and blues singer, songwriter, and pianist, who was born on August 12, 1920, in Minden, Louisiana, and passed away on August 11, 1984. He is best known for his smooth and soulful voice, his introspective and often melancholy lyrics, and his mastery of the blues.
Mayfield had a successful career as a recording artist in the 1950s and 1960s, with hits such as "Please Send Me Someone to Love" and "River's Invitation." He was also a prolific songwriter, penning songs for other artists such as Ray Charles and B.B. King.
Despite a car accident in 1952 that left him with severe facial injuries and limited vision, Mayfield continued to perform and record music throughout his life. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010 and is remembered as a pioneering figure in the R&B and blues genres.
